About DirkaDirka
DirkaDirka.RedGriffins.org is a VetBlog, worlds different from your ordinary MilBlog since most of us commenting are already out of the service. The great part about being a ‘been-there, done-that, got the T-shirt’ is that through properly sucking up to your pals still happily doing tours of duty, you get the straight information directly from the source about what’s going on in places under-reported. While we may be out of the service, it’s never quite out of us.
Besides, since Islamist radicals hate humor and satire, wouldn’t this be our own little front on the Global War on Terror?
Make your own mind up. Don’t listen to us any more than you do the media. Use some critical thinking… Oh, and feel free to dissent. That’s what this country’s based on - the ability to discuss matters and the right to disagree. We only ask that you be respectful and if you’re going to disagree with a post, well, try to have some sources in mind to back up that opinion?
DirkaDirka is a take from a Team America: World Police quote (with our own spelling twist):
Gary Johnston: Bak. Derk-derk-Allah. Derka derka, Mohammed Jihad. Haka sherpa-sherpa. Abaka-la.
Terrorist: Ahhh! Derka derka derka!
[Allows Gary into terrorist hideout]
Our categories are fairly diverse:

Navy - Never Again Volunteer Yourself
General Navy news of note.
Viking SENSOs
The S-3 Viking had a crew of four, three commissioned Naval Officers and one noncommissioned rating - the Sensor Operator (SENSO). AWs filled these jobs and held a great deal of responsibility, particularly for someone without a degree and formal warfare rating. The job ceased in 1997 with the retirement of the ASW job of the Viking, however those who served still stay in contact. This category holds specific Viking SENSO news, jokes, and other scuttlebutt. Now the title SENSO has been given to Air Force Aircrewmen who do the on-the-ground sensor operation for their fleet of Predators and other UAVs.
Politics and Culture
Comments on our current culture and political analysis, and the Conventional Wisdom held by the 91.5% of America who’ve never served in the Armed Forces. We’ve got plenty to talk about here. DirkaDirka!
Smackdown
Your general smack talking category. Sometimes we’ll post a Smackdown to the Conventional Wisdom.
Terrorism
Events, history, and analysis of Terrorism and terror-supporting countries. These include Iran, North Korea, and to a lesser extent Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.
SoCal
Southern California news. Only in California stories go here… Hollywood culture goes here… Santa Monica and San Diego goes here…
BugoutBag (BoB)
Bugout Bag. The euphemism most likely heard by military folks would be called an ‘Earthquake Kit’. When you decide you’ve had enough of whatever panic-stricken mania has been induced within the metro areas, you decide to take your kit and head for the hills. We tell you what’s been packed. This also works well for hurricanes like Ivan and Katrina, and some of our AWs have firsthand experiences to share about their own Bugout Bags.
Mass Casualty Prep 101
Things you need to know, regardless of political influence, for that day when you need them. Like it or not, whether it’s Hurricane Katrina or 9.11.01, civilians still need to know how to respond to Mass Casualties. In the Navy, particularly the Aircrew and Aviation rates, we all learned basic first aid, shipboard firefighting, mass conflagration tactics, and anti-terrorism. So for us Veterans, the skills we carry forward are ones that we would like to share.
